If you have followed music for quite some time, one thing you have noticed is that in today’s world, musicians and singers in the music industry often transcend genres. What I mean by that is music has evolved to where people don’t stay within one specific genre. Some do more than others, but I am talking about great opportunities for new music, more artist collaborations and less labels on the artists themselves.
Start naming pop artists, and you’re going to mention names of people that might not technically identify themselves with the pop genre. I think that is rather cool because the world of pop is huge. Justin Timberlake is one of my favorite pop artists that falls under that label. Ask me to identify another modern favorite, and the next name I would come up with is Ed Sheeran.
Then there are old school pop favorites like Michael Jackson and a little more recently, Celine Dion. Then there is Madonna, and as for music groups, did you know that Maroon 5 is sometimes classified as a pop group? There is Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Pink, Adele, Elton John and many more favorites of mine.
Many of the last artists I mentioned are current, but let’s go Ed Sheeran current for a moment, like red hot current. Another favorite group of mine is Imagine Dragons. That group can reinvent themselves and keep charting singles at a time when it isn’t easy to do so every single year. This group doesn’t just stay in the scene. They command it from year to year and do well at the awards shows. Plus, Imagine Dragons performs well live in front of audiences, and that’s awesome considering the type of music they make.
Sia is another one of my favorite pop artists, as is Katy Perry. To be quite truthful, I have about had enough of Lady Gaga, but I don’t mean that I dislike her or anything. I just have enjoyed some of her music, recognize she is still really popular but just would rather listen to other artists for whatever reason.
I also like Usher. I think Taylor Swift is okay. I have come around I regards to her, but I bring her up because she is also considered a country artist. And what about Miley Cyrus? I have had to come around with her, too, but she is cool. She doesn’t fit into any genre, but she does also sing pop music.
